Our story
In 2001, Dr. Diane Hovey established The Family Institute for Creative Well-Being, a nonprofit that provided art therapy services to under-served communities. When she started to feel the pull of her time being directed toward fundraising versus helping others, Diane looked for ways to better serve families living with ongoing illnesses and disabilities. And thus, Alliance for Healing was created in 2007.
Over the years, Alliance for Healing has grown to a thriving practice that serves individuals and families whose relationships have been rocked due to chronic conditions and mood disorders that impair daily function, as well as those living with trauma. Today, we continue to work together with our clients to help them find hope, direction, clarity and focus in a welcoming setting.
Diane Hovey, PhD, LMFT, CPT, CSAT
Specialized training: Neurofeedback, Equine Assisted Therapy, Sex Addiction Therapy
Diane is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and founder of Alliance for Healing. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota where she studied with leading experts in stress theory. Her research focused on those who live with overwhelming life challenges (disability and chronic illness in the family) and how the resulting stresses impact the meanings that drive behaviors. Her specialty areas include neurofeedback, sex addiction therapy and equine assisted therapy.
Diane develops and creates therapeutic resources to be used by therapists and individuals to improve their potential for healing and well-being. She assists individuals, families and couples in addressing life-altering challenges such as grief, loss, guilt, anxiety, depression, marital problems and other life stresses which impede our abilities to navigate the uncertainties of life.
I think of myself as a guide. I enjoy working one to one or in a small group of people on their personal hero’s journey. It is incredibly rewarding to see people transform tragedy, chaos or challenges into something that grows into possibility. It’s important to respect yourself and others, to validate experience and to listen to others with your heart. Relationships are both more fragile and more critical to well-being than anyone wants to admit. None of us know how to be in relationship without learning, exploring, making mistakes, and then, most importantly, making the necessary changes to have secure, meaningful relationships.

Michaela Olson
Michaela has a Bachelor’s of Science in Family Social Sciences with a focus in family violence prevention. While in school, she spent her time volunteering at House of Peace (a women’s shelter) as a children’s advocate. She helped the women and children gain a closer and safe relationship through crafts, games and activities. Michaela has worn many hats as a preschool teacher, a barista and a freelance designer. This led her to her pursuing a certificate in user experience/user interface design from Springboard.
Michaela has worked with a handful of individuals and companies to transform their user experiences online through design. She looks forward to merging both of her areas of study into one role at Alliance for Healing. Outside of work, Michaela is an active person; she enjoys biking, swimming, knitting, crocheting, reading, watching movies and trying new restaurants.
I have a passion for understanding how things work together in harmony. We all have unique backgrounds and characteristics that make us who we are. I deeply value when people feel comfortable enough to share their true opinions. This concept is critical in gaining a better understanding of others and how they perceive the world around them.
Sarah Dietsche
Sarah completed her LAMFT at Antioch University, New England. She also enters the profession with a PhD in musicology having spent the past 20 years working as a music professor, private teacher and professional musician. She finds that many of the same skills apply in teaching and in therapy.
Sarah’s education focuses on systems theory, seeing clients not only as individuals but as part of interlocking networks of family, friends, colleagues, organizations, etc. Sarah views much of her work as helping clients to evolve in these networks in ways that support them as individuals and work for their health and, potentially, the health of those around them. She has experience working with individuals and couples and is also looking forward to working with families. Sarah also has additional experience and training in LGBTQ+ issues, sex therapy, gender, social justice, trauma, grief and loss, and creative arts modalities.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys hiking, kayaking, skiing, cooking, home-improvement projects, making music and spending time with friends, family and fur-babies.
Every person is unique and benefits from focus and attention to their individual needs and experience. I prefer to work collaboratively with clients by listening and trusting that each person has the best idea what is right for them, though I am comfortable taking the lead when necessary. Connection is primary.
