Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm him or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
Notice of Privacy Practices Acknowledgement and Disclosure
The privacy of your information is important. We keep your information secure and confidential to the best of our ability. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) guidelines are followed. By law we are considered a mandatory reporter. That means abuse to children/vulnerable persons must be reported. Actions must also be taken if there is considered to be imminent danger to self or others.
Emergency Policy
We have limited availability for after hours support and will work with every client to develop a safety plan. We will answer crisis level voicemails on a daily basis. However, if you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911, the Crisis Line at 612-379-6363, and or go to the nearest emergency room.
